For the past year-and-a-half I was a part of Cafe Tu Tu Tango's artist program and painted Sunday evenings at the restaurant. But, unfortunately, after nearly 20 years, Cafe Tu Tu Tango is closing it's doors at the Coconut Grove location. There were about 25 artists in the program and I had the pleasure of getting to know a few of them. It's sad...but it happens. Here's the story from as seen in the Miami Herald.

Cafe Tu Tu Tango will remain open in Orlando and California. It is a tapas restaurant inspired by Spanish Artist's lofts back in a time when artists found inspiration and community in sharing food, drink and philosophy with one another.

Mom and big brother Nate came to visit me at Tango. Remarks from mom, “It was fun being able to participate and interact with the art and dancing that happened throughout the night. It was entertainment and good food without the cover charge. The people were friendly and the service was excellent. Definitely something I’ll want to do again." Tonight was a sun and moon theme: blue and orange for mom and the deep red that Nate likes.

Back at the 8X10 paintings. So far I've sold four and have requests for a couple more. Not too shabby. The faces are fun to paint because I'm experimenting with unusual colors and combinations for skin tone. This should be a good experimentation for future paintings.

This painting, like "Mother Earth," is based on the environment. I haven't determined what color I'll add to the black and white sun. But, the hands of a clock will be added to the hand/trunk of the tree. This painting will represent no time better then the present to lend a hand and protect our environment.

Now that I have created a personal style, I decided to start a series of 8X10 paintings--all faces. My goal is to make 20 in total without duplicating the same color scheme.

May 27, 2007 - Memorial Day Weekend

Mother Earth. Will paint her belly/the globe (you can kind of see the map sketched in pencil) in red and pink. Her legs and body color will make her look like a flower. She's sad because we aren't taking very good care of her baby. The black and grey represent pollution and all the other ways we permanently damage our wonderful planet. A little consideration can go a long way....

Finished up Fire and Water. Sometimes I'll go to Tu Tu Tango with a couple of paintings I need to finish. This week I worked on Fire and Water and am almost done with the Trees from a couple of weeks ago.

Fire and Water...finish it up with another shade of blue and a tan face and green eyes. I used a different canvas this time and it was easier to apply the paint.
