Broward Art Guild, "Self Portrait Exhibition"

Broward Art Guild hosted a juried competition "Portraits/Self Portraits Exhibition." Opening Reception was Friday, July 27th and exhibit through August 11th. A total of 31 artists from South Florida were represented.

I decided to deviate from my normal media and painted my portrait on a mirror. Clever I like to think, to look at my self portrait in a mirror. Incorporated were a number of different materials: the stars are stickers, the eye is paper; necklace is duct tape and dots in the water are tape as well. Permanent marker was used to write a few words around the portrait: play; belong; dance; live; music; smile; joy; love; laugh; learn and dream. The rest is acrylic and true to the style of faces that have become my repertoire. This was a fun piece to do and I learned that painting on mirror is not as easy as one might think. I might try using various materials in the future.
